Rochdale – In the business of success: August

It’s that time again, when we stop and take a breather for just a moment or two, to take a look at the successes from Rochdale’s thriving business community. As a region we’re really beginning to see some incredible changes thanks to ongoing regeneration and business ingenuity.

So, whether you’re looking to relocate to the area or you’re simply proud of Rochdale’s continuing growth, this piece will provide you with all you need to know about Rochdale’s success in business this August!

100 apprentices in 100 days

Rochdale Training really impressed this month with their 100 apprentices in 100 days scheme. The aim was to encourage as many employers to take on apprentices as possible in order to “upskill and qualify” existing and new staff members. With an outstanding 104 apprentices on board, the scheme has truly excelled!

Skills Advisor Mark Whittaker said: “Employers used our free recruitment service and now have apprentices in a variety of roles including engineering, business, health care and transport”. The scheme has been hugely successful for both employers and apprentices, and now also provides existing staff with the platform for career elevation, developing the next generation of business leaders.

Deliveroo arrives in Rochdale!

Deliveroo announced this August that it will be partnering up with restaurants and eateries in Rochdale to provide their famous delivery service to the people of Rochdale. Deliveroo’s UK and Ireland MD, Dan Warne said: “Launching in Rochdale is a key milestone for Deliveroo. Rochdale has a thriving foodie community and a wide range of restaurants, so we are excited to connect them”.

This new business will bring over 20 jobs to the area and aims to partner with 30 eateries by the end of the year!

For many businesses this could be the boost in resources that they need to enhance the development and expansion of their establishments to a whole new customer base, at home on their sofas.

Expansion for 150-year-old textile company

After nearly 150 years in the business, Rochdale-based textiles company, JH Cunliffe, are expanding their already global entity to accommodate the growth of their ‘Made in Britain’ brand – and with that they’ll be hiring 20 new employees.

MD, Josh Dawson said: “The Made in Britain brand is really strong now. People know they can get better quality for not much money and we export all over the word. We had 6 major customers a few years ago and now we have 30”. This incredible growth so deep into the company’s history is why it’s made it to our list this month.

As the company expands both in size and reputation, its roots remain firmly in Rochdale.

M&S is moving into Rochdale Riverside

And last but certainly not least, August saw the reconfirmation of Marks & Spencer as lead tenant in our £80m Rochdale Riverside development. The national brand forms part of an impressive list of tenants, including Boots, JD Sports, River island, Next & Reel Cinema.

This fantastic news confirms Rochdale’s strong position as a centre for business prosperity and growth, and we’re really proud to be a part of it.
